Abstract
224,727. Cheney, C. W. Nov. 22, 1923. Hasp locks; locking sliding latches; lock mechanism, spring tumbler type. -In a hasp lock having a latch bolt blocked by a key-shot blocking bolt, the blocking bolt carries a limb spring which forms the locking tumbler for the blocking bolt and may also form the spring of the latch bolt. Fig. 3 shows one form of the invention in which a bolt proper g has a head g<2> for engaging the hasp, a pair of guides g<5> for the blocking bolt a and a gating g<1> for co-operation with the tumbler c. This tumbler spring c has two limbs c<2>, c<3>, held under the folded-over edges a<3>, a<2> respectively of the bolt a, and a part c<4> bent at right angles and working in a slot a<4> in the bolt a. In the position shown in Fig. 3, the part c<4> is engaging a stop f<3> on the casing so that the bolt g can be manually retracted, the bolt g and blocking bolt a moving bacliwards and the spring end c<4> being held by the stop f<3> and travelling down the recess a<4>. If the key is inserted and turned on the pin g<3>, it releases the tumbler c<3>, c<4> from one side of the V of the gating g<4> and moves the bolt a to engage behind the stop f<4> while the tumbler engages the other side of the V-gating, locking the bolt g against retraction. The spring c also forms the shooting spring of the bolt g. In the form shown in Fig. 11, the blocking bolt a moves in a recessed part of the bolt g and the spring tumbler c<4> coacts with a stud g<4>. In the position shown, the bolt g can be manually retracted against the spring c but when the bolt a is shut so that the bent-over flange is behind the shoulders s<3>, the bolt g is locked. Fig. 15 shows a further form in which the blocking bolt lies parallel with the axis of the bolt g. As shown, the bolt g can be withdrawn against its spring x. If the bolt a is moved forwards, the tumbler spring c<4> comes in front of the stop f<4> and the end of the bolt a behind the head g<2> of the bolt so that this cannot be retracted.
