Abstract
485,348. Continuous reheating furnaces. STASSINET, T. July 14, 1937, No. 19511. Convention date, Aug. 11, 1936. [Class 51 (ii)] In a continuous reheating furnace having a restricted passage 1 between the heated soaking-chamber 14 and the main heating- chamber 10, the walls, and more particularly the roof, of the passage are formed with grooves or recesses 4 to promote turbulent flow of the gases, and thereby to maintain super atmospheric pressure in the soaking chamber. The formation should be such that the Reynolds' number for the passage is between 1800 and 5000 and is preferably about 2200. Grooves may be formed by using L-shaped bricks and turbulence may be increased by recessing the walls defining the grooves. The roof of the passage, or groups of the roof bricks, may be mounted to permit of vertical adjustment.
