Abstract
In a continuous furnace for annealing cast-iron pipes, the pipes are preheated by primary burners to a temperature between 875 and 925 DEG C., maintained at this temperature by the combustion of separately introduced secondary supplies of gas and air for such period as to reduce the whole outer surface to a hardness, of 200 DEG Brinell or less, and are finally cooled, before emerging into the atmosphere, to a black heat.
