Abstract

Hot gases from pyrites burners, in which the reaction is so conducted that the gases leave at temperature substantially above 600 DEG C., e.g. from 800 to 1000 DEG C., are cooled to a temperature not substantially below 450 DEG C. by indirect heat interchange with raw phosphates or superphosphates, which are thereby rendered more suitable for subsequent processes. Gases of the required temperature may be generated by burning powdered or easily combustible ores, or mixed ore and fuel.
