Abstract
Production and heating process for "reformed gas" to partially replace the coke used in blast furnaces. A fluid hydrocarbon is mixed with a carburant gas in a plasma torch so that partial oxidation of the gas to CO and H2 occurs. i.e. the gas is reformed at high temperature. The plasma torches are located in the tuyeres so that the gas is fed directly to the blast furnace. The temp. of the gas may be regulated to an optimum value. The plasma torch may also be used reheat gas which has been previously reformed.
