Abstract

275,601. Krupp Akt.-Ges. Friedrich- Alfred-H³tte, F. Aug. 6, 1926, [Convention date]. Blast and cupola furnaces.-In a method of operating shaft, and especially blast furnaces, involving the utilization in the furnaces of a portion of the waste gases, the blast is delivered at a higher temperature than usual in order to supply sufficient heat to heat up the waste gas to furnace temperature, whilst the coke charge is correspondingly reduced, and changes in the thermal and chemical equilibrium of the process are compensated for by varying the quantity of waste gas supplied. Loss of working temperature may be compensated for by heating the waste gas or by adding oxygen. As an additional means of control coal dust is supplied, with waste gas close above the tuyeres. Waste gas alone may be introduced above tuyere level to act as a local cooling agent.
