Abstract

619,176. Metal-heating furnaces. COLD METAL PRODUCTS CO. Nov. 25, 1946, No. 34875. Convention date, Aug. 5, 1943. [Class 51 (ii)] [Also in Group II] A coil of metal strip 36 is supported in a moving hearth furnace on a plate 35 and protected by a cover 37. The furnace, which may be C-shaped in plan, is heated by burners 19 below the charge level. A protective atmosphere is supplied to the charge from annular liquidsealed gas chambers 41, 42 by a pipe 45 which travels with the charge. Either of two gases may be supplied according to the position of a valve 46. The hearth may move slowly either continuously or intermittently and the chamber may be divided into preheating, heating, slow cooling and rapid cooling zones.
