Abstract
425,054. Metal - heating furnaces. BEESTON, W. G., 30, Brynymor Crescent, and BROWN, W. R., Hillside, Eden Avenue, both in Swansea. Sept. 6, 1933, No. 24742. [Class 51 (ii)] A continuous furnace for the heat treatment of plates, sheets, strips, &c., is muffle heated and has a roller way conveyer of the overlapping disc type. As shown, independently fired upper and lower combustion chambers 1, 2 are separated from the heat treatment chamber 7 by arches 4, 5 preferably of carborundum, and a preheater 15 for the air supply for combustion is fitted at the waste gas exhaust end. The furnace may comprise preheating, heating and cooling sections in line and the roller way conveyer extends from the charging end through the preheating and heating zones, and a part of the cooling-zone, after which follows an endless conveyer. The roller discs may be made of carborundum or other non-metallic refractory. If necessary, a non-oxidizing, or de-oxidizing gas may be supplied to the heating-chamber.
