Abstract
846,625. Rotary hearth furnaces. SVENSKA METALLVERKENS UGNS A.B. July 4, 1958 [July 15, 1957], No. 21531/58. Class 51 (2). A rotary hearth furnace for heat treating metal articles comprises a refractory hearth 1 mounted on wheels 3, 4, a series of bases 9 defining chambers 10 associated with tangentially directed burners 43 in a firing zone C and covered by base plates 12 supporting the load 21 protected by annular covers 18, the latter being supplied with a protective e.g. non-oxidizing, gas through pipes 19. The firing zone comprises a refractory housing 35 associated with girders 36 and closed by doors 37, 38, combustion gases supplied to each chamber 10 therein by gas, liquid or pulverulent fuel burners 43 circulating up the centre of and down the outside of the cover 18 being then recirculated to said chamber 10 by said burner through space 44. A protective gas container below the hearth is divided into two compartments 31, 32 by flanges 27, 28, 29 engaging an oil trough 25, gas being supplied through pipes 33, 34 controlled by a valve 23 to each pipe 19.
