[Class 39 (i)] A device for regulating the intensity of the beam comprises three planar metallic grids between the cathode and an apertured diaphragm and a lens concentrating the beam on the aperture. As shown, the device comprises two positive grids E1, E2 and an intermediate negative grid M. A coil B1 focuses the beam on the aperture of a diaphragm E3 integral with the member E2, and a lens L reproduces this aperture on the anode A1. The final reproduction is made with the aid of a coil B2. In a modification, the diaphragm E3 is separated from the grid E2 and the coil B1 is replaced by a cylindrical lens surrounding the grids.
