Abstract
480,370. Screw-and-nut gearing. WILMOT-BREEDEN, Ltd., and SPICER, H. J. Sept. 11, 1936, No. 24789. [Class 80(iii)] [Also in Group X] Operating mechanism for pivoted windows comprises a rotary member h having oppositely directed external and internal screw threads which engage respectively with members a and i connected to the fixed and hinged frames, the member h being rotated by a device which has a slidable connection therewith and which is secured against axial movement in the member a. In the construction shown, the member a is swivelly connected by means of a stud c to a support b which is secured to the window frame. The means for rotating the member h consists of a handle p mounted on spindle m of square or other non-circular crosssection. The spindle slidably engages with a correspondingly shaped aperture in the rear wall of the member h, and is prevented from axial movement by the engagement of its handle p and a collar p with opposite faces of a flange o on the member a. The outer end of the inner member i is bifurcated and carries a pin which serves as a pivot for a link k connected to the hinged frame.
