In the alternative movement window assembly of the Parent Specification the stay 10, bar 19 and tube 20 (Fig. 7 of the Parent) are eliminated and there is provided in place thereof, for each of the upper and lower sides of the sash, means for locking the window in any one of its four open positions, comprising a pair of stay bars 7, Fig. 1, Pro. pivotally mounted at one end 8 in a substantially universal manner as by a pin 8, (Fig. 2 Pro) in a bracket 17 loosely pivoting in a hole in one end of the end of the bar 7, on the inner face of the sash 1, the bars 7 diverging from each other towards their other ends at which they are pivotally connected to respective sliders 10 imprisoned to slide in a channel 11 in the window frame, and manually operable handle 13 whose shaft passes through the arms of the channel to screw into a nut 15 fixed to the channel and a collar on the shaft to engage the outer face of the other arm of the channel, whereby the channel can be compressed on to the sliders 10 and lock them against movement in the channel to hold the sash in whatever position it may be. Movement of the sliders is limited by stops 9 in the channel. A second embodiment is also described (Figs. 1-4 complete not shown) with alternative universal joints.
