Abstract

897,172. Ventilators. HILLS (WEST BROMWICH) Ltd. May 28, 1958 [Feb. 28, 1957], No. 6653/57. Class 137 A ventilator in which a master shutter and a number of slave shutters are operated together by a single operating mechanism comprises a master shutter located at one end of a ventilator opening and a number of slave shutters, each shutter being provided with projections from one edge thereof and being pivoted about an axis outwardly of an opening in the cladding of a building, the axes passing through the projections which extend towards the same end of the ventilator, and an operating arm fixed rigidly to the master shutter, extending into the interior of the building and connected to a shutter operating mechanism. As shown, a master shutter 2 has two depending flanges 13, 14 connected to an operating arm 15 which is pivoted to an operating mechanism comprising a chain wheel 27, a thread 21, a nut 20 and an arm 19. A number of slave shutters 3 are pivotally connected to a bar 11 by frames 9, 10, the master shutter also being connected to the bar 11 so that the opening of the master shutter causes opening of the slave shutters, all the shutters pivoting about axes 4 situated within the ventilator opening In the closed position the free end of each shutter overlaps the pivoted end of the next shutter. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown) a hydraulic piston moves the master shutter and a rod to which the slave shutters are connected.
