Abstract

478,136. Stuffing - box substitutes. FREUDENBERG GES., C. July 10, 1936, No. 19230. Convention date, Feb. 21. [Class 122 (v)] An oil seal moulded from natural or artificial rubber compounds such as polymerization products of imsaturated organic compounds, is provided with a stiff portion c adapted to be a press fit in or on a housing &c. and a flexible sealing lip b. The stiffness may be obtained by the massive section of the part c or by metallic reinforcements e preferably perforated and embedded in the material. An angle ring d which may be integral with the ring e is provided with spring tongues to increase the flexibility of the lip b. The seal may be of the external type, Fig. 5. Artificial rubbers employed may be those known under the Registered Trade Marks " Buna," " Vinoflex " and " Duprene," having various specified fibrous, metallic, or other fillers. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also the construction shown in Fig. 7 (Cancelled), and internal and external spring - loaded seals as shown in Fig. 9 (Cancelled). This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
