[Class 122 (v)] A shaft packing b vulcanized or otherwise confined in a casing a is made from rubber-like polymerization products of unsaturated hydrocarbons, e.g. the material known as " Brovimal " or under the Registered Trade Mark " Buna " formed with a cellular structure. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also the packing shown in Fig. 2 (Cancelled) comprising a layer i of cellular synthetic rubber interposed between denser layers h, k. The layer h holds the packing in position by its own stress. The packings may also be provided with internal or external reinforcements such as tongued spring rings or perforated sheet metal and may be vulcanized in cages. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
