Abstract

539,150. Rubber compositions. HUBRON RUBBER CHEMICALS, Ltd., and CURRAN, H. Feb. 26, 1940, No. 3562. [Class 70] [Also in Group XXIX] A petrol &c. tank is provided with means for automatic sealing of any perforation by a bullet &c. comprising a bag or layer of petrol-resisting synthetic rubber, such as that known as " Neoprene" (R.T.M.), tightly fitting, and, if desired, vulcanized to, the tank, a surrounding layer of soft deformable or plastic material or dough, and a further bag or layer of synthetic rubber similar to the first and under slight tension. The deformable material may comprise 100 parts by weight of raw masticated rubber mixed with 60 parts of pale spindle oil, and may be applied in sheets butt-jointed by localized pressure. A further layer of plastic material and an outer layer of highly extensible pure vulcanized rubber under slight tension may also be provided.
