Abstract

543,005. Fuel &c. tanks. FIREPROOF TANKS, Ltd., and DANIELS, L. S. Oct. 9, 1940, No. 15060. [Class 69 (i)] Tanks, such as fuel and oil tanks for aircraft, are protected against damage, as by a bullet, by means of a layer of sponge rubber 3 to which is affixed a thin layer 4 of vulcanized rubber which is placed between the sponge rubber and the wall 1 of the tank and on puncture tends to bend towards said wall against the pressure of the fuel &c. in the tank. Further covering, such as inner and outer layers 2, 5, of tough rubber, may also be provided. The protective coating may be quilted into oil-tight areas as in Specification 538,580.
