Abstract
573,307. Tanks. WILKINSON, B., and LE GOOD, K. M. Sept, 20,1940, No. 10725/41. Divided out of 573,838. [Class 69 (i)] A fuel tank comprises a flexible bag surrounded by and readily removable from a flexible self-sealing cover having an internal coating of a fuel-impervious material embodying at least one layer of a swellable rubber composition such as that known under the Registered Trade Mark " Linatex " and made by the process described in Specification 437,928, [Group V]. The inner bag may be coated or impregnated with a fuel-proof material or may be made of fuel-resistant synthetic rubber. The outer cover may consist of a number of layers overlapping at the corners and cemented together and may be covered externally with doped fabric, treated leather, or treated asbestos sheeting. In the form shown, the tank has a filler hole 1, inspection hole 2 through which the inner bag can be passed, and a sump 3 to which the outlet pipe 18 and drain pipe 4 are connected. The means for attachirig the cover-plates 11 and sump 3 to the inner bag 5 and outer cover 8 comprise annular rings 9, 15, distance-pieces 10 and bolts 12, the ring 15 being flanged to bite into the layers 14, 7.
