Abstract

524,203. Resilient supports. JULIEN, M. F. A. Jan. 18, 1939, Nos. 1716 and 1717. Convention dates, Jan. 27, 1938 and Nov. 5, 1938. [Class 108 (iii)] A resilient support comprises rigid members having parallel surfaces with resilient material adhesively connected thereto, one of the rigid members having also a surface at right angles which engages the resilient material progressively, so as to offer a progressive resistance to relative movement of the rigid members. As shown in Fig. 1, rubber material 7 is secured to cylinders 1, 2 flanged at 4, 5, the rubber overlapping the flange 5 and grooved or recessed at 8 so that under increasing load the groove 8 gradually closes and provides a gradually increasing compression of the rubber member. The cylinders 1, 2 may be replaced by plates. In Fig. 6, the rubber 7c is formed as a ring attached to an outer cylinder 2 and an inner cylindrical block 4c, a wedge-shaped space 8c being formed between the lower surface of the rubber and the foundation 22, this space being gradually closed under increasing load to provide a progressive compression of the rubber. In Fig. 11 the rubber 7 is attached to an outer member 2 and an inner member 1 and the bush is inserted in ari eye 22 and is secured therein by a ring 2 inserted in a groove in the member 2. The wedge-shaped spaces, are formed by curved plates 4a, 4'a and the corresponding surface of the rubber and may be unequal to provide different degrees of compression. The plates 4a, 4'a may be flat or curved in the opposite direction. The control member 1 may be displaced longitudinally relatively to the member 2 such that it regains a symmetrical position under static load. Specifications 474,639 and 493,899 are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes other modifications which form the subject-matter of Specification 524,258. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
