455,615. Flexible unjointed hinges. TRIER, V. A., Andre Works, Victoria Gardens, Notting Hill Gate, London. April 23, 1935, No. 12139. [Class 65 (ii)] [See also Group XXVI] In packing of the type in which limited movement of a shaft is permitted by the distortion of a rubber body, the rubber body is compressed between a flange on the shaft and the surface of the wall through which the shaft passes. A single rubber washer F, Fig. 4, may be employed between a collar El on the shaft E and the wall A', or a second washer F may be interposed between the collar E<1> and the screwed cover D<1> of a casing A<3> surrounding the shaft. Two washers may be employed on each side of the collar E<1>, the washers being separated by metal discs F<1>. The washers F may be reinforced by embedded, perforated metal discs F<2>. The engaging surfaces of the washers &c. may be conical. As shown in Fig. 5, the shaft is in two parts G, G<1>, which screw into a ball G<3> lodged in a recess in the wall A. Rubber washers C are interposed between the wall A and the flanges G<2> on the shaft.
