Abstract

292,614. Bredtschneider, K. June 24, 1927, [Convention date]. Joint-making packing. - An. elastic metallic gasket d, Fig. 1, is provided between a cover a and the wall b of a vessel, and is retained by a ring e. The ring e is kept in place by one or more members f fitting in a recess in the wall b. The cover a, gasket d and ring e are held in their assembled positions by a ring i and bolts h. The gasket d is compressed by the internal pressure in the vessel b transmitted through the conical surface c on the cover a. The ring e may alternatively be secured by inclined bolts passing through it into the wall of the vessel. In a modification, Fig. 2, the ring e is secured by a number of conical ring sections f<1>. The gasket d may be so formed that only its angles are in contact with the parts a, b, e. The gasket, may be slit like a piston ring, and more than one may be used.
