Abstract

278,564. Strachan, W., (Moss, J. W. S.). Jan. 28, 1927. Piston packing.-A split ring 1 is formed, at the side remote from the fluid pressure, with an undercut groove housing a split ring 4 having a correspondingly bevelled surface. The ring is outwardly expanding, while the ring 4 is made to fit the cylinder bore without tension. The rings may have concentric inner and outer peripheries, or either or both rings may be eccentric. The rings are arranged to break joint, relative rotation being prevented by a lug or pin on one ring engaging the gap in the other ring, or by a pin engaging recesses in both rings.
