Piston packing. - In order to prevent leakage of steam through the joint, a split packing- ring a is associated with an uncut ring b, both being ground to fit the cylinder. The rings are pressed towards the cylinder by a spring opposite the gap in the ring a. A pin on the ring b projecting into the gap in the ring a prevents relative rotation of the rings. The ring b is of L-section and covers the joint in the ring a on the pressure side.
