Abstract

455,275. Universal joints. TRIER, V. A., Andre Works, Victoria Gardens, Notting Hill Gate, London. April 11, 1935, No. 11207. [Class 80 (ii)] One or more indiarubber discs Q, of outwardly diverging crosssection and each having an embedded disc Q <1> of metal or fabric, is axially compressed to about half its natural thickness so as to adhere frictionally to the conical end-faces of shaftdiscs O<1>, P<1> and intermediate discs R. No vulcanization or surface bonding is employed. The embedded metal discs Q<1> may have perforations through which the rubber extends. Centring is by shaft-extensions O<2>, P<2> engaging bores in the embedded discs Q<1>, or one shaft may have a part-spherical extension engaging a cylindrical socket in the other. The Provisional Specification states also that one shaft-disc may have an external sleeve, enclosing the other shaft-disc, and receiving a screw-threaded thrust-ring for axially compressing the rubber disc or discs, and also that the rubber discs may be arranged in parallel instead of in series as shown.
