Abstract

238,064. Simms, F. R. May 5, 1924. Universal joints, in which driving and driven members are secured to the parallel surfaces of a flexible ring of U-shaped cross-section. The surfaces and the shaft members are cut away between their places of attachment to allow either shaft member to be passed into the ring and be secured to its inner surface, thereby reducing the axial length of the coupling. The ring 1 has cut-away portions 3 between the boltholes, which may be strengthened by plates 2, the apertures of the ring being thus roughly triangular and the shaft members 5, 6 either triangular or of spider form, as shown. The member 6 has been passed through the ring aperture and turned into alignment with the bolt-holes, which are preferably staggered with respect to those of the member 5.
