Abstract

698,488. Moulding oil seals and like packing members. TRIST & CO., Ltd., R. June 11, 1951 [June 9, 1950], No. 14479/50. Class 87 (ii). [Also in Group XXVI] An oil seal or like packing member 2, Fig. 2, made from rubber or the like and having a rigid reinforcing ring 6 embedded therein, is made in a mould, Fig. 1, comprising pins 20 which project upward from the bottom of the mould and support the ring 6 during moulding. The pins, six in number, are a force fit in holes 21 in the lower part 12 of the mould, and can be made to project to a greater or less extent. As shown, a flexible lip 4 is formed on the oil seal by mould parts 14, 16. The ring 6 may be of metal. The rubber &c. is introduced into the mould by transfer moulding. Prior art :-The Specification states that it is known (a) to chamfer the lower edge of the ring and let it rest on the bottom of the mould, and (b) to let the ring rest on a curved surface of the mould to keep the ring off the mould bottom.
