Abstract

1,019,523. Piston and stuffing-box packing. GEORGE ANGUS & CO. Ltd. Jan. 4, 1965 [Jan. 22, 1964], No. 2765/64. Headings F2B and F2T. In a U-packing ring comprising a U-section ring 1 of resilient material having an antiextrusion ring 2 of relatively hard but flexible material bonded to its base, the ring 2 has at least one peripheral axial flange which is tapered in thickness and flared to terminate as a lip 3 merging in a peripheral surface of the ring 1. The rings 1 and 2 may be of rubber or polyurethane and nylon respectively. In a modification the ring 2 has an axial flange according to the invention at both its inner and outer peripheries.
