Abstract
475,915. Charging retorts. SOC. DE CARBONISATION DE MOLIERES - SURCEZE. July 11, 1936, No. 19316. Convention date, July 12, 1935. [Classes 51 (ii) and 55 (i)] Externally heated vertical retorts for carbonizing fuel agglomerates are charged, after each complete or partial extraction through the bottom of the retort, by means of a series of horizontal and vertical movements of the charging device to build up progressively ascending levels so as to prevent the crude agglomerates falling such a distance as would cause damage. A retort 1 has charging orifices 2, 3, through which passes a shoot 5 supported by a travelling bridge 6 and lifted and lowered while retaining its optimum inclination. Anthracite agglomerates required to contain at least 3 per cent of volatiles are carbonized in a single operation, the retort then being entirely emptied. A two stage carbonization as described in Specification 422,943 is effected for agglomerates with a smaller volatile content.
