Abstract
474,851. Filtering gases. POELMAN, A. J. J., and ETABLISSEMENTS R. SCHNEIDER. Aug. 10, 1936, No. 22042. Convention date, Aug. 8, 1935. Addition to 440,584 and 440,585. [Class 8 (ii)] [Also in Group VI] Air purifiers, as described in the parent Specifications in which each pleated paper filter is connected to a corresponding physicochemical purifying element, e.g. charcoal, are provided with a preliminary filter element, e.g. of charcoal, before the paper filter. The casing for the purifying element may be provided with a plurality of annular ribs or flutings to prevent air passing down the walls without being purified, and the filter may be connected to the purifying element by a throat of comparatively small cross section. In gas shelters a plurality of purifiers are used. As shown, a pleated paper filter 1 is luted to plates 2 and 3. The air entering passes through a preliminary filter of charcoal between perforated walls 4 and 7. The filter casing is connected to the purifying element casing 12 by a throat of comparatively small cross section. A dished perforated diaphragm 15 provides for even distribution of the filtered air over the charcoal in the casing 12. The walls of the casing are fluted. A plurality of purifiers may be arranged on a partition 18.
