Abstract

337,539. Fenn, A. G., and Anglo- American Oil Co., Ltd. Sept. 27, 1929. Filters having sheet filtering-materials; filters fitted in pipes.-In filters or strainers for petrol or other liquids, a maximum filtering area is provided creating little back pressure. An outer case 1 has at its ends caps 2, 3, having apertures 6, 7. respectively as an inlet and outlet for the liquid. Within the case 1 and concentric with it are perforated cylinders 8, 9, of such a diameter as to leave an annular space. The: cylinder 8 contains a wire gauze tube 14, while a similar tube 15 is fitted externally to the cylinder 9. Bag-like. bodies of chamois leather &c. may be used in addition to the wire gauze. Between the inner ends of the cylinders is a helical spring 13 which engages the ends of inwardly dished perforated bodies 11<a>, 12a, fitted respectively into the cylinder 8, 9. The spring detachably connects the cylinders together and holds them rigid in channels in the caps. The bodies 11<a>. 12a are provided with sheets 8<a>, 9<a> of fine wire gauze. The bodies 11<a>, 12a may be imperforate so that no liquid passes straight through.
