Abstract

793,286. Filters. EICKEMEYER, H. May 11, 1956 [May 14, 1955], No. 14787/56. Class 46. A filter element 1 comprises a supporting pipe of wire mesh or perforated metal sheet covered by a fabric 6 of metal cloth, glass fibre fabric or synthetic fabric. A pipe 13, having openings 17 at its closed lower end, passes through the centre of the filter element 1 and is used for mounting the element. In operation filter aid such as Kieselguhr, activated carbon, asbestos fibres, cellulous fibres, fuller's earth, bleaching earths &c., is mized with a portion of the liquid to be filtered and pumped through the filter to deposit a filtering mass on the fabric 6. The liquid to be filtered is then pumped through inlet 43, and the filtrate passes through opening 38 to the filtrate chamber 47 and is discharged through outlet 48. When the filter is exhausted the discharge valve 49 and inlet valve 44 are closed and the valve 52 is opened to admit air, or flushing gas, which, on opening the valve 46, passes to the distributing chamber 32, along pipes 13 and through outlets 17. The air rushing upwards causes the filter cake to brake off the fabric 6 and be discharged through the outlet 45. Any number of elements may be used in the filter.
