[Class 39 (i)] A screen is provided to protect bronze or other metal parts and the screen from damage by moisture, heat, or evolved gases during the fusion of the electrode structure to the envelope. As shown, a screen 7 of mica or ceramic material, mounted on the foot 3, closes the end of the envelope so that gas or moisture evolved during the fusion of the foot to the envelope does not pass to the main part of the envelope and is evacuated through a tube 8 in the foot.
