392,583. Cathode-ray tubes. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Sabbah, C. A. ; 1, Washington Avenue, Sohenectady, New York, U.S.A.) Nov. 19, 1931, No. 32126. Convention date, Nov. 19, 1930. [Classes 39 (i) and 40 (iii).] A cathode-ray tube for producing or reconstructing the image in picture transmission systems, or for recording wave forms, has an internal wall 10, Fig. 1, which divides the tube into two airtight compartments, and is formed of a number of transverse conductors so that it has a higher conductivity transversely than in other directions, the cathode ray being diverted against one side of the wall and an auxiliary anode 14 being arranged in the gas-filled compartment 23 remote from that in which the ray is produced, the intensity of the glow varying with the intensity of the impinging ray. The internal wall may consist of a number of wires 11, Fig. 3, separated by insulation 12, or the conductors may consist of graphite crystals. The anode 14 consists of a gauze screen. A perforated shield 8, connected with the cathode 5, is arranged between the cathode and the anode 6, and the beam is deflected by pairs of plates 17, 18 and 19, 20. The filling in the compartment 23 may consist of a mixture of neon and helium with or without sodium, or of a mixture of caesium and mercury vapour. The image may be observed through the gauze anode 14 or may be photographed.
