Abstract

469,571. Electrolytic surface treatment of aluminium and its alloys. SCHERING-KAHLBAUM AKT.-GES. April 27, 1936, No. 11968. Convention date, Nov. 30, 1935. [Class 41] The metals are provided with oxide coatings by anodic treatment in an electrolyte containing an acid or acid-reacting salt with an addition of a soluble manganous, chromic, nickelous or cobaltous salt or of a tungsten or molybdenum complex compound, the addition having neither an oxidizing nor a reducing action. Manganous, cobaltous and chromic sulphates, chrome alum, nickelous acetate and manganous phosphate, are suitable salts and phosphotungstic acid and molybdic-sulphuric acid are suitable complex compounds for addition to the bath. Salts and complex compounds may be added in conjunction. Sulphuric acid is preferably employed as the acid constituent. The coated articles may be coloured or treated with boiling water steam or a boiling chromate solution or may be immersed in varnish or molten wax.
