Abstract

465,378. Coke ovens. PAVITT, W. H. Feb. 17, 1936, No. 4765. [Classes 51 (i) and 51 (ii)] In a coke oven having four quarter wall flue groups B, b, b<1>, B<1>, connected to corresponding regenerators F, f, f<1>, F<1> to form two independent heating-systems for the halves of the battery, a single sole flue H, h is provided in connection with each regenerator for the supply of air or gas and the exhaust of waste gases, instead of separate supply and exhaust flues as described in Specification 399,975. As shown . in connection with an oven adapted for heating alternatively by lean gas, which is supplied from mains or to the regenerators, or by rich gas supplied direct to the heating flues through conduits O in the pillar walls E, the regenerator space beneath each oven is divided by a longitudinal partition F<10> to form two side by side regenerator groups, alternate ones, e.g. FA, of which are connected for preheating air only, while the remainder F are connected for air or lean gas alternately. The sole flues H, h, for the exterior and interior regenerators respectively are superposed, and adjacent pairs between the same pillar walls are connected through flattened conduits I<2>, i<2> to reversing-valve boxes K<1>, K<2> set at two levels and connected through common conduits L<1> to the exhaust mains L. The air inlets I<6> to the valve boxes are so positioned that throttling-bricks in the sole flues can be manipulated therethrough by a suitable tool, or a spray pipe can be inserted to deliver cement for stopping cracks and leaky joints. Plates T of aluminium or alloy steel may be incorporated in the brickwork to prevent leakage between the flues Hand h.
