Abstract
448,030. Regenerators for coke ovens &c. DREHSCHMIDT, H., 202, Rellinghauserstrasse, Essen, Germany.-(Koppers Akt.-Ges., H.; 29, Moltkestrasse, Essen, Germany) Aug. 29, 1934, Nos. 24939 and 24940. Convention dates, Aug. 29, 1933. [Classes 51 (i) and 51 (ii)] Regenerators for coke ovens or other furnace installations are formed with two or more side-by-side sole passages for the supply of air or gas to be heated and the withdrawal of combustion products, these passages being independently controllable and communicating with the regenerator chambers through openings which progressively increase or decrease in size along the length of the passages. The invention is shown, in Figs. 1 and 3, applied to a horizontal coke oven having twin-flued heating walls 2, 2, and regenerators 3 disposed beneath the oven chambers, each regenerator being fitted with vertical partitions 4 and having two sole passages 6, 6 communicating with the chequer - work chamber 3 through openings 7, 7 which respectively increase and decrease in size progressively from the sides of the battery towards the middle. In order that one or other of the passages 6, 6 may be entirely shut off or the distribution of the gaseous medium varied between them, there are provided independently actuated slides 10, 10 which operate within fittings 11, Fig. 7, having projecting portions 9, 9 engaging in U-shaped rings 22 at the outer ends of the passages 6, 6. Asbestos packing 23 renders the joints gas-tight and permits ready removal of the fittings 11. The latter are equipped with interconnected valves 14, 17, controlling the waste gas outlet 12 and the air inlet 16 respectively, and are also formed with a closable opening 18 adapted for connection to a gassupply main when preheated gas is to be employed. Figs. 4 and 5 show the invention applied to a coke oven in which, below each oven chamber 30, are arranged regenerators 33, 34 separated by a central wall 35, each regenerator being subdivided by a vertical portion 38 having a lateral extension 38<1>, into sections 39, 40, the former communicating with a distributing passage 36 or 37 in the opposite half of the battery and the latter directly with the heating flues 31, 32 in its own half of the battery. In this construction the regenerator sections 39 have a single sole passage 43 which communicates therewith through openings of uniform size, while the sections 40 have two sole passages 44, 45, in which the connecting openings are graduated in the same manner as that shown at 7, 7, Fig. 3. The passage 43 connects directly with the interior of the fitting 46 or 47 which is fitted, as shown in Fig. 9, with independently actuated slides 48, 49, controlling the passages 44, 45.
