Abstract

463,732. Regulating air supply. WHITELEGG, R. H., and ROGERS, J. D. Oct. 4, 1935, No. 27470. [Class 51 (i)] The supply of air above the grate of a locomotive boiler furnace is controlled by dampers in accordance with the supply of steam to the engine cylinders. Air supply passages 7, 8, 9 in the side walls of the firebox are controlled by a damper plate 14 sliding in guides 18, 19 and provided with closure members 15, 16, 17. The plate 14 is actuated through links and levers from the valve rod 23 controlling the admission of steam to the engine cylinders. According to a modification the air supply passages are arranged in the front wall of the firebox and controlled by hinged dampers actuated by the valve rod.
