Abstract
539,561. Draught inducing appliances for locomotives. McNULTY, D. May 3, 1940, No. 7954. [Class 51 (i)] In a locomotive the steam pipe 3, 5 having a control valve 4 and leading to the steam jet blower 6 in the smoke box is provided with branch pipes 8, 9 having valve connections 10, 11 outside the smoke box whereby when steam is being raised in the locomotive the draught in the furnace may be produced by steam supplied to the blower 6 from an external source such as a boiler in the locomotive shed or from a locomotive in steam fitted with a similar appliance. If it is desired to supply steam from a locomotive in steam to two locomotives in which steam is being raised, a valve 12 in the blower pipe 5 of the locomotive in steam is closed and valves 4, 10, 11 are opened so as to supply steam through the pipes 3, 8, 9 to the corresponding pipe 8, 9 of the locomotive in which steam is being raised, and through the open valves 12 to the blowers 6.
