Abstract

Furnace fronts; air supply, regulating.-In furnace fronts for steam-boilers adapted for forced draught, the supply of air to the ash-pit and to the casing surrounding the firing opening is controlled by valves e, e<1> connected by a rod f and arranged so as to turn simultaneously in the same direction, the left-hand valve serving to direct air downwardly towards the ash-pit and the right-hand valve serving to direct air to the air casing surrounding the firing opening b. The valves are pivoted towards their top edges to increase the valve opening at the bottom. A vane g directs the air entering above the valve e to the casing surrounding the firing opening. Instead of single valves, lower valves of the form shown in Fig. 2 may be employed adapted to be operated by a lever k, connecting-link f, and bell-crank levers i. The valves may be interlocked with the furnace door to prevent it from being opened while the forced draught is on.
