Abstract
165,367. Reid, J. Oct. 20, 1920. Doors; furnace fronts.-In a furnace front of the kind comprising front and back plates a, b with projecting flanges forming the ash-pit flare, c and enclosing an air space e around the firing- hole d, lateral valves f are provided arranged in line, when closed, with the downwardly extending portions of the outer wall of the air space e and the upwardly extending side portions of the flare c, and such valves are pivoted at about the level of the removable bottom n of the firing-opening. The valves control the passage of air to the space e and to the space above the flare c. Openings g admit air to side and top baffles, indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 3, and openings h admit air to the space between the door i and a baffle j attached thereto and comprising diverging side walls connected by an inclined perforated wall, as shown in Fig. 2. The valves f are operated by arms which interlock with the fire-door when the valves are open. Specification 143,147 is referred to.
