FURNACE.
Application filed February 18, 1922. Serial No. 537,505.
the Province of Quebec, in the Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Furnaces; and I do hereby declare that the following is a true, clear, and exact description of the same.
The present invention relates to heating apparatuses and is fully described in the following description and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a furnace to which is adapted the invention.
Figure 2 is a cross sectional view on lin 22 of Figure l.
Figure 3 is a side elevation of a furnace provided with a casing according to the invention, said casing being shown in section.
Like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.
Referring to the drawings 1 are the walls of the casing adapted to enclose the furnace 2, said walls preferably projecting from the floor above the furnace, and 3 is a cover. One side of said casing is provided with the opening 4 which allows to reach the ash-pit, fire-box and section door of the furnace.
The vertical open space which is left between the furnace and the casing is closed by the lateral and top walls 5. The opening 4: is preferably closed by the hinged doors 6.
Within the casing 1 adjacent the top of the furnace is provided a horizontal partition 7 which is shown as extending from the inner side of the walls of the casing 1 tothe furnace 2, the said partition may also extend right overthe top of the fur" nace. Over the smoke outlet 8, in the furnace 2 is provided a'casing 9 which extends to the front of the furnace and registers with the holes 10 provided in the partition 7. Just under said casing 9 in the space provided between the section 7 and the top wall 5, over the opening 4:, is provided a bafile plate 11, in order to direct the fumes uniformly to each side of the furnace. p
12 and 13 are pipes communicating with the space between the casing and furnace 1 preferably midway of its height, said pipes extending as shown in Figure 1 of the drawings, parallel to the walls of said casing and leading to a main smoke pipe 14 which communicates with the chimney.
Intermediate of each of said pipes 12 and 13 connect short pipes 15 and 16 respectively, which communicate with each side of the casing 1, said pipes being each provided with the dampers 17.
When the furnace is fired the dampers 17 are preferably open, and in order to increase the draught, but 1 when the fire is sufficiently going, the said dampers 17 are closed, thus forcing the fumes through the lower end of the pipes 12 and 13 respectively. As the fumes pass through the fume outlet 8 in the furnace, they enter the casing 9, pass through the opening 10 in the section 7, when they are evenly distributed to each side of the furnace by means of the baffleplate 11. The walls of the casing 1 are preferably of fire proof material and {mounted preferably on an iron frame, but it will readily be understood that any other means of securing said walls can be used without departing from the spiritancl scope of the invention.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. The combination with a furnace having a fume outlet at its upper end; of an exterior casing around the walls of said furnace suitably distanced therefrom; a partition extending across said exterior casing adjacent the upper end of said furnace; a hole in the said partition; a casing provided over said fume outlet in said furnace and extending over said hole in said parti tion; a baffle plate adjacent said hole; and a pipe leading to the chimney communicating with the space between the casing and furnace, substantially as described.
2. The combination with a furnace having a fume outlet at its upper end; of an exterior casing around the walls of said furnace suitably distanced therefrom; a partition extending across said exterior casing adjacent the upper end of said furnace; a hole in the, said partition; a casing provided over said fume outlet in said furnace and extending over said holein said parti tion; a baffle plate adjacent said hole; a pipe leading to the chimney communicating with the space between the casing and furnace; and a plurality of pipes leading to a main pipe communicating with the chimney, said plurality of pipes also communicating with said casing, substantially as described.
The combination with, a furnace having; a fume outlet at its upper end; of an exterior easing around the walls of said furnace suitably distanced therefrom; a partition extending across said exterior casing adjaeent the upper end of said furnace; a hole in the said partition; a casing provided over said fume outlet in said furnace and extending over said hole in said partition; a bafile plate adjacent said hole; a pipe leading to the chimney communicating with the space between the casing and the furnace; and a plurality of pipes communicating with a main pipe, which leads to the chimney, said plurality of pipes coniniunicating at their other end to the easing; and a damper in said pipes, substan tially as described.
Signed at Montreal, Quebec, Canada this 30th day of January, 1922.
