Abstract
355,225. Composite steam boilers. STOKES, W. G., 11, Aberford Road, Woodlesford, near Leeds, MARSDEN, J. R., Audray, Gledhow Lane, Roundhay, and SHEARD, R. D., 47, Clarendon Road, both in Leeds. May 15, 1930, No. 14906. [Class 123 (ii).] The sides and top of a separate combustion chamber 13 at the front of a Cornish or like boiler 1 are screened by rows of tubes 17, 20 connected to upper and lower drums 18, 19 arranged at the corners of the chamber and opening at their ends into transverse boxes 14, 15 closing the front and back of the chamber. The bottom of the chamber is fitted with firebars or with a chain grate. The gases pass from the chamber into the flues 3 of the boiler 1 through connecting flues 16. The drums 18, 19 are cormected with the water space of the boiler by pipes 36, 35. The drums pass through the transverse boxes and are closed at their ends by dished plates 26, the parts of the drums within the boxes being formed with apertures 29. The upper drums communicate with a steam drum 40, which is connected by a pipe 43 with the main steam pipe 6.
