Abstract

465,418. Firegrates. SMART, H. H. Nov. 8, 1935, No. 30904. [Class 51 (i)] A firegrate is built up of a number of grids each supported on a Venturishaped air supply duct 1, Figs. 1 and 4, which are in turn supported by bearers 6. The throat of each duct is located substantially below the centre of the grid 2 and the inlet 8 is arranged at right-angles to the outlet 3 and with its edge substantially in vertical alignment with one edge of the outlet. Each duct is provided with a hinged valve 13 provided with controlled openings 15 and the valves of the ducts may be coupled by links for simultaneous operation. The ashpit may be divided longitudinally into compartments supplied with air by ducts 9, 12, 19, and the air supply may be controlled by a valve 18 mounted on the hinge pin of the firedoor.
