[Class 51 (i)] In a solid fuel furnace having a valvecontrolled admission opening for combustion air, entering under natural draught, the valve is balanced so as to close, in spite of the gravity action which tends to open it, when the inner pressure becomes greater than the external pressure. The valve 40 is pivoted at 41 and if the internal pressure becomes greater than the external, is closed by the action of the air on the wall 40a and on a flange 40b. The valve is adjustable by means of a bolt 42 movable along a transverse slot 40c. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a furnace, Fig. 1 (Cancelled), with two inclined grates each formed by tiers of bars 2 and supplied with fuel from a hopper 14 and with a lower horizontal grate comprising bars 22 adapted to be rocked by means of a handle 28, a crank 26, member 25 and cranks 23. The upper part of each bar 2 is inclined at 2a from a point behind the front edge 2b of the bar immediately above. Grooves 4 in the nose of the bar allow air to pass to the inclined face from channels 5 between the bars. Air supplied through inlet 7 is directed into the channels by walls 8, 9 at the rear ends of the bars. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
