Air-heating stoves; closed solid-fuel stoves; grates; feeding; dampers; linings; covers.-A closed solid-fuel air-heating stove comprises a combustion chamber having refractory walls arranged above an inclined grate the effective area of which is regulatable, and connected to a flue containing air-heating elements exposed to the combustion gases and also to radiation from the hot flue walls. The form shown in Figs. 1 and 3 comprises a hopper a supplying fuel to a grate d past a regulating slide b. The rear wall c of the hopper is hollow and air-cooled. The gases pass up the refractory-walled combustion chamber f, then downwardly, and again upwardly around air-heating tubes k, which may have internal ribs and may, as shown in Fig. 4, be formed in sections each comprising a rib integral with a segment of the wall. The effective area of the grate, a portion of which is imperforate, may be adjusted by moving the grate through pinions e engaging racks on the grate. The grate may be agitated by the same means to clear it from ashes. An aperture g, Fig. 3. serving as a window, and also to admit secondary air, is provided. The top h of the stove forms a hot-plate. In the form shown in Fig. 5, the hollow rear wall c of the fuel hopper a supplies secondary air to the stove. The sliding grate d, at the rear of which is a fixed clinker grate n, may be withdrawn after removing a stop-pin o. An air-supply damper m is automatically adjusted according to the position of the grate through a rod q operated by a cam p on the spindle e. A cover v containing a grid is arranged over the top h and is removed when the latter is in use as a hot-plate. The air-pipes k pass at the top through glands. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a form of the stove having no fuel-hopper, the fuel being fed to the. top of the fuel shaft, at the bottom of which is an horizontal and horizontally-movable grate. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
