Abstract

462,982. Type-bar-making machines. CLEMO, F. A. (Mergenthaler Linotype Co.) Sept. 18, 1935, No. 25896. [Class 100 (iii)] Metal-pumps.-To facilitate the casting of large slugs, means controlled automatically by the size of the mould are provided for varying the pressure on the pump plunger, a second spring being brought into action when a large slug is to be cast. The pump plunger E, Fig. 1, is connected to an operating- lever E<3> mounted loosely on a rod E5, which is carried by a bracket F, extending between a central framemember G and a side frame-member G<1>, as shown in plan in Fig. 2. The lever E<3> is controlled, as usual, bv a cam E<9>, and has an arm E<7> projecting beneath a lever E<11>, to which is connected an actuating - spring E<12>. An arm E<20> on the lever E<3> extends beneath a lever E<17>, to which is connected an auxiliary spring E<19>. A sliding stop H, Fig. 3, is normally held by a spring in the path of the lever E<17>, so that the spring E<19> is inoperative. A block J, fixed adjacent to the leading end of each of the larger moulds, acts through levers K, K<4> to withdraw the stop H and to permit the spring E<19> to act on the pump lever.
