Abstract
487,160. Type-bar-making machines. LINOTYPE & MACHINERY, Ltd. Dec. 15, 1936, No. 34423. Convention date, July 10. [Class 100 (iii)] Moulds; clamping matrices.- In machines fitted with the low moulds that are employed in conjunction with matrices having deep formative cavities for the casting of characters of large body size, means are provided for enabling moulds of two different heights, such as ordinary and low moulds, to be used in the machine at the same time. (1) The mouldslide 18, Fig. 8, that carries the mould-disc 1, is adjustable with respect to its operating- cam, so that the mould-disc may occupy either of two positions according as a high or a low mould is in use. The slide is operated from a grooved cam 25 through a lever 21, connected to the machine frame by a pivot 22. A roller 23, that engages the cam-groove, is eccentrically mounted on the lever 21, and can be adjusted into either of two positions by means of a draw-rod 33 having an operating-knob 36. (2) The vice-jaws 7, Fig. 5, are resiliently mounted by means of springs 12, so that they may be pushed back by a high mould 2, which may be opposed to them when a low mould is in use, and the mould-disc is advanced in the ejecting position. (3) Abutments 14, Figs. 3 and 4, mounted on the vice-frame, are provided for the moulds when in the ejecting position. The abutments are each formed with a recess 15, so that a high mould 2 seats in the recesses, and a low mould 4 seats on the high parts of the abutments. (4) The vice automatic stop is actuated by an abutment on the mould-disc, instead of by the mould itself, so that its operation is independent of the height of the mould in use.
