[Class 100 (iii)] Moulds; clamping matrices.-Means are provided for limiting the movement of the mould-disc towards the trimming-knives when the mould in use is in the ejecting position, more especially for use in connection with devices of the kind described in Specification 445,909, in which low-quad portions are produced on the slug by means of ribs on the vice-jaws, which enter the mould. When the moulddisc carries several moulds of different sizes, ribs differing in vertical height and projecting to different extents are provided on the vicejaws to suit the different moulds. When. a large mould is in use, and is rotated into ejecting position, a smaller mould may thereby be brought into the casting position, so that the ribs on the vice-jaws would be too large to enter the mould when the mould-disc advances, with consequent damage to the machine. In order to avoid this, banking- blocks are automatically projected into the path of the mould-disc before its second advance with the operative mould in the ejecting position, so as to restrict the movement of the disc. One 34 of the banking- blocks slides on one 6 of the trimming-knives, and two others 40, 41 slide on the other knife 7. The blocks are raised vertically by a sliding rod 38, which is operated by the first elevator when near the top of its upward movement to carry the matrix line to the distributing position. The banking-blocks have inclined surfaces coacting with similar surfaces on the knives, to cause them to be projected as they move upwards. On the descent of the elevator, the rod 38 falls and draws down the blocks.
