Abstract
522,455. Type-bar-making machines. LINOTYPE & MACHINERY, Ltd., SCOTT, R. H., GORSE, W. F., and HAYWARD, A. S. Dec. 8, 1938, No. 35897. [Class 100 (iii)] Clamping matrices-The clamping face of a vice-jaw is wiped by a wiper mounted on the jaw and actuated by a periodically operated organ of the machine, such as the first elevator. The wiper comprises an arm 3 pivoted in a recess in the jaw 1 and normally pulled upwardly against a stop by a spring 5. The free end of the arm carries a roller 6 and a pivoted member 7, one end of which constitutes the wiper, and the other end of which is acted on by a spring plunger 8 to press the member 7 against the face of the jaw. The first elevator, in its descent, strikes the roller 6 and moves the arm 3 down. When the elevator ascends, the spring 5 raises the arm, and the jaw is wiped by the member 7. When the jaws 1, 10 close, for example, when blank slugs are being cast, a projection 13 on the right-hand jaw 10 strikes an extension 12 of the arm 3, and moves the wiper away from the jaw 1.
