[Class 100 (iii)] Magazines; keyboards.-Mechanism for adjusting the assembler-entrance into operative relation with different magazines comprises a power-driven member and a key-controlled member adapted for frictional engagement therewith to actuate a power-transmission system whereby the entrance is adjusted. The mechanism, which is similar to the known keyboard cam-mechanism, comprises a rotating roller 1 and a cam 2 eccentrically mounted in a yoke 3, which is pivoted at one end and is normally held by a trip-dog 4 with the cam out of contact with the roller. The trip-dog is actuated by a finger-key 5 to release the yoke, so that the cam falls upon the roller and is rotated thereby. The yoke 3 raises a rod 8, which acts through ratchet-mechanism to turn a cam-disc 14 having a cam-groove 13 in one face. The cam acts through a lever 16 to adjust the entrance upwards and downwards alternately. The mechanism may be carried in a casing pivoted as a unit on the machine frame at one side of the keyboard, so that it can be swung outwards to give access to the unit and to permit swinging of the keyboard itself. The mechanism may be duplicated for machines having main and auxiliary machines, and the casing is then located between the two sets of magazines. To leave a path for the movement of the casing, the escapementreeds of the auxiliary magazines are mounted in a frame supported on a horizontal pivot, and are rocked into an inclined position by a lug on the auxiliary keyboard as it is swung outwards.
